Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Park

I remember the coffee shop from last year...

I get a tripple Americano and hit the road South to the Yellowstone Park

It’s about an hour drive to the entrance.

First stop is Mammoth Hot Springs

Looks like someone’s gonna eat me up:)

Wildlife in the park is amazing but you have to be careful. Here’s a bison. He rolled in the dirt just a second before i took this shot.

My car starts acting up again - darn, I’m still 1000 miles away from Phoenix.
I hope I make it through the Park. It wouldn’t be cool to get stuck here.

Here is another fellow:)

Yellowstone had a big fire in the 70s and most old trees were destroyed.
You can still see a lot of dead trees between the new growth...

That’s not a fire but a hot spring behind the trees.

This is the most famous geyser in the world “Old Faithful”

That’s an old yellow bus that is still used to drive the tourists through the park.

The Old Faithful Lodge is the biggest Log building I’ve ever seen, very impressive!

Got to go outside, the next eruption is supposedly in 20 min.

There is goes

More and more

Reaching max

After that I have again problems to get the car going but finally it works and I’m on my way South to the Yellowstone Lake.

Indian summer is the best time ever and the colors are amazing. I want to stop and take picture after picture but I’m afraid that the car won’t start so I take shots while driving. The red bushes I see everywhere are beautiful, especially against the blue water.

A few miles after leaving Yellowstone Park the Grand Teton Park begins and the views are stunning!!!

I make it to Jackson, Wyoming where I hope to get someone to look at my car.
I get a motel and walk along main street.

This is an interesting sculpture out of horn...

I decide to have a beer in the “Million Dollar Saloon” which has authentic Saddles as bar seats.

Time to go back and chill, I have to get up at 7 am to get my car checked out. If everything works out I want to drive back to the Tetons and spend the day in the mountains.

To The Gateway of the Yellowstone Park

I wake up early and drive downtown Missoula for a coffee

It’s a small city but looks quite charming

After that I’m on my way deeper into Montana. My plan is to drive to Livingston which is also called the Gateway to Yellowstone Park and close to the Northern entrance. It’s about 250 miles further East.

I remember driving through Butte,MT last year. Shortly after that there is the continental divide. It’s pretty here.

My car is holding up well and I’m making 35 miles/gallon driving 55 miles max. I’m glad the cruise control works again which makes it simple.

On my way I see these Farms along the highway and wonder how it would feel to have a life like that and living somewhere in the boons.

I’m getting close now and am looking forward to some food...

Once in Livingston I choose the same Motel like last year and get the same room by coincidence:)

Time to get some sleep, tomorrow is a long day.

Montana here I come

This morning I got up at 6:45am to get in time to the first service at Unity of Northern Idaho. I play three times today, twice at the services and after that a concert. Like last year I totally forget to take any photos - oh well...
Around 3 pm I leave Coeur D’Alene and am on my way out to Montana.

I just love driving, what can I say:)

After the pass I’m in Montana - just love it here.

I make it out to Missoula where I take a motel and stay for the night.

From my room I see a beautiful sundown.

Beatles in Idaho

I just have a short drive this morning across the border into Idaho. Saying goodbye to Spokane...

It’s just 30 minutes to the state line.

Once in Coeur D’Alene I drive to Keith’s house. He invited me to a Beatles session that a freind of his hosts once a month somewhere in the countryside.
Here we pack the car and get ready.

The drive out there is beautiful:)

The session is on the deck of Steve’s house. It’s a lot of fun playing one Beatles song after another.

After that Keith and me go out for dinner and then back to his appartment to play some more music.

Keith has a nice 12 string

By midnight I’m toast and need to lay down on the couch. Tomorrow I have an early start and have to be at the church at 7:45 am.

Further East

Another beautiful morning on the Flying Pig Ranch.

After a good breakfast I’m on my way East again. Today I’m playing in Spokane at the Caterina Winery. Eastern Washington is mostly flat and a desert.

It starts getting pretty the closer I come to Spokane. Here I catch a Lake in the rear mirror just about 10 miles outside the city.

I’m gonna see/hear an old friend of mine, Jonathan Nicholson. He’s a wonderful instrumentalist as well as a great guy!

I called my other Spokane friend Carlos who was free tonight and made it out to the winery:)

The last act of the night is Annie O’Neill

After the show I’ll stay with Jonathan and his wife Heather. After a pizza I’m ready to curl up...

Leaving Seattle

Today’s the day and after 4 days with a fever in the 100’s and no preparation I’ll just grab whatever I can find and pack my little Honda. At least Fox don’t seem to care at all.

It’s still early and the weather and the view of the city just amazing while crossing the West Seattle bridge.

The traffic is bearable and even the 520 bridge is ok. Love that view...

Today I play a little house concert in Ellensburg so I don’t have to drive too far.
It on I90 on my way to Spokane.

The Flying Pig Ranch is a little outside the city close to the hills. It’s beautiful out here.

Tammy is greeting me right when I arrive and I realize that I didn’t call or email for a while and she wasn’t sure if I show up:)

No ranch without horses...

I have a small but appreciative crowd of about 10 people. It’s the living room setting.

It’s my first show since a while and I also haven’t played a lot of guitar since I came back from producing my CA band Lyquid Amber, so I feel a little nervous. After a couple of bars I’m on auto pilot and have a great time. It’s a wonderful intimate evening and after playing and chatting I’m ready to rest:)
